Hansard Publishing Union Limited, £10 ordinary shares, 189[0], signed by C. Kegan Paul, black. VF
A brainchild of serial fraudster and financier Horatio Bottomley. The company acquired the right to publish the Hansard Parliamentary reports with a huge capital of £1 million and another £250,000 in loan stock. By 1892, Bottomley and Isaacs were on trial for fraud in relation to the company’s affairs.
Kegan Paul was a well known clergyman, publisher and author and also operated his own company of publishers Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co. Ltd., which was acquired by Routledge in 1912.
