The company was founded in 1874 and became a joint-stock company in 1893 with head office in St. Petersburg. Initial capital was 500,000 roubles in shares of 1000 roubles, converted in 1905 to 250 roubles. The second and third issues were also in 250 roubles. In 1911, capital was reduced by lowering the nominal value of the 250-roubles shares to 100 roubles and issuing 25,000 new 100-roubles shares. All later issues were 100 rouble shares. By 1917, capital had increased to 25,250,000 roubles in shares of 100 roubles.
