Hull Flax & Cotton Mill Co., £100 share, 185[3], scrollwork at left, waxed paper, extremely fine. The company was formed in 1836 by Joseph Rylands. He had retired from Rylands & Sons, the successful Manchester cotton manufacturing company he ran with his father and 2 younger brothers. This company became the first successful joint-stock company in the industry. Joseph died in 1853, his son inherited.
